Combat InformationArrived Ubon July 1967, flew 90 F-4D combat mission prior to being shot down.
Capture MissionLt Smith was on a mission over North Vietnam. He delivered his ordnance on an important strategic target in the face of intense antiaircraft fire, SAMs and attaching hostile aircraft. He shot down a MIG-17 in aerial combat before he was shot down. He was subsequently awarded a Silver Star for his performance on this mission.
MIA Information and DatesN/A - He was immediately captured and taken prisioner. Was Carried as MIA until sufficient evidence was received on 7 August 1969 to warrant placing him in POW status
